They built the new freeway on that trackbed, and relocated the tracks and facilities to the other side of the new freeway. I went by it every summer in the 1980's on our way from L.A. to Sacramento on the Coast Starlight, to visit family in Mendocino County. I was by the old depot this summer, it looked so sad, full of grafitti and wasting away in the dark under the freeway, though the new one they built after the quake in Jack London Square is beautiful I must say! They would have had to build a new one anyway, it couldn't handle all the Amtrak traffic now. A neat historic note, I had always wondered going by what those platforms on top were for, they served the old Key System, which is long gone.
