In reading of the Grand Trunk's history, I learned of Canada's worst railway accident that occurred in this area on 29 June 1864. At that time a swing bridge operated to allow a ship and barges to pass. The train missed their signal and plunged into the passing barges below. It is accepted to be that 99 German and Polish immigrants perished including the train's conductor. Wikipedia: St. Hilaire Train Disaster. Are their any remnants of the old railway still here? Thanks for a peaceful photo of this area, Michel.

The lift span was at the left, just outside of the picture. It has been removed and replaced by a permanent span around 2004-2005 if I remember correctly. Nothing remains of Canada's worst train accident.
