This is the Bernina Express train, running from Tirano (just over the border in Italy) to St. Moritz. It crosses the Bernina pass at 2253 meters (7931 ft) above sealevel, making it the highest Express train in Europe. The station of Alp Grüm is located 2091 meters above sealevel, or 6860 feet. Starting in the station, the railway makes a 180 degree turn down a 7% grade with a radius of only 45 meters (150 ft) towards Tirano. By the time the line passes the station again it's dropped a respectable 20 meters (60 ft) in altitude. Mind you, the entire 400 km (250 miles) of RhB network is adhesion only!
