As a Work Train engineer for TTI the 257 was absolutely my favorite engine to run. This was formerly a Burlington Northern engine. The short nose was a far cry better than running the older Rock Island and PL&E engines with the longer nose. Great feel and plenty of power. The configuration seen here was what we called a Ditching Train: Locomotive, dump car, flat car with an excavator and another dump car. Our Maintenance of Way work train crews would take turns running the locomotive (as engineer) one day and running the excavator (as conductor) the next. Those were great days!
