I stumbled across this photo a while ago and, like I'm sure many others, Shrugged it off not knowing what wreck it was involved in. I was recently doing some research tracing cars involved in a certain wreck when I saw this locomotive in the mix. This was the Union Pacific Locomotive zat the point of a train which was tied down for the night of January 25th, 2005 in Glendale, CA. As I'm sure many people reading this may already realize, the next morning a Metrolink train would hit an SUV with its cab car, derailing it. The cab car would then hit this very Union Pacific locomotive, forcing the train to jacknife into the path of another Metrolink train, and knocking this unit to its side, spilling diesel and causing a fire. It was very interesting to realize this. Thanks for the shot!

Was this locomotive scrapped or rebuilt?

This engine was rebuilt and there are multiple pictures of it on RP.Net after this date. I personally have seen this engine since I took this picture.

This locomotive has since been rebuilt. If you do a search on RP.Net you will find multiple pictures with later dates for this unit. I personally have seen this locomotive out on the road on a couple of occasions since I took this picture.
