Now departing Firestone. The Greenfield Village Shuttle Train departs the Firestone Station, immediately adjacent to the village entrance, for a 30 minute ride around the park. The power this day is the Weiser Railroad's smallest locomotive, a highly modified 4-4-0 that is named for Henry Ford's friend, Thomas Edison.
Dearborn, Michigan's Greenfield Village is an amazing time capsule, displaying 300 years of Americana in the form of a small town. The village is a collection of historic structures and replicas of historic structures from all over the US. You can wander through Orville & Wilbur Wright's original Dayton Bicycle Shop, or tour a remarkable replica of Thomas Edison's famous Menlo Park Laboratories. The gray structure on the right side of this photo is an experimental soybean laboratory that Henry Ford built himself. Experiments conducted there led to the development of plastics, which were later introduced into Ford Motor Company products. If you're ever in the Detroit area, the Greenfield Village and Henry Ford Complex is a great way to spend a few days seeing American History in action.
