Southern 401 and a local mixed. In what may be a first since her 2010 restoration, Southern Consolidation #401 hauls a period mixed local on the grounds of the Monticello Railway Museum for a May, 2018 Southern Rail Productions charter. As the museum's only operating steam locomotive, the 401 typically hauls the weekend passenger excursions, but this is the first freight charter I'm aware of in her 8 years of operation here....at least the first one that's been widely advertised. That's more than a little amazing because this museum has a great selection of vintage rolling stock, a nicely maintained yard with some interesting infrastructure and 7-8 miles of track to work with. The 401 is a beautifully maintained example of an early 20th century freight hog, and she put on a great show for still shooters and videographers alike.
