Two fairly rare Electro-Motive Division locomotives sit together at Western Rail Incorporated’s locomotive facility at Airway Heights west of Spokane, Washington, on September 19, 2015. The unique lines of Montana Rail Link F45 No. 390 is shared with the equally-distinct General Motors Diesel (a Canadian subsidiary of EMD) GMD1. MRL No. 390 was built in April 1971 for Burlington Northern, spending time on NYS&W before going to Montana. No. 1415 was built in August 1958 for Canadian National as No. 1022, and rebuilt in 1989 before landing in WRIX’s lease fleet. A total of only 86 F45s and 101 GMDs were built.
