Remarks & Notes
Built in September of 1971, Seaboard Coast Line SD45 number 2024 has worn a number of paint schemes over its career. It was restored to its original SCL scheme in February of 2016 by the Southern Appalachia Railway Museum in Oak Ridge, Tennessee. SARM was approached by CSX in 2017 with an opportunity for mainline service for the 2024, by using the classic EMD as part of CSX's special 75th Anniversary of the Clinchfield Santa Train. After a number of mechanical upgrades performed by SARM and East Tennessee Rail Car Services, the unit was relettered by SARM in September 2017 as "Clinchfield 3632". In 1977, the Clinchfield acquired seven SD45's from SCL through a locomotive trade deal, ridding themselves of seven unfavorable GE U36C's. The group of SD45's was numbered 3625-3631. The number 3632 was chosen for 2024 since that would have been the next number in the series, had CRR acquired an additional SD45.
