Amtrak train #3, the westbound Southwest Chief, arrived in Fullerton, California, at 11:52 PM on July 12, 2017 - just a little behind schedule. The train is due into Fullerton at 6:44 AM, making its stop here 17 hours and 16 minutes late! The passengers must have been very aggravated, but of late the Chiefs have been running late way too often. In fact, earlier this evening, the eastbound train departed Los Angeles an hour and a half late. This is not the way to get repeat business. Train #3, which departed Chicago on July 10, got stuck in Raton, New Mexico, for seven hours when Amtrak P42DC 5 died. CREX ES44AC 1317 was sent to help, and there were problems getting it to work with the remaining P42DC, AMTK 22. As usual, late trains keep getting later - particularly when the freight engine won't operate as fast as the passenger diesels - causing this train to depart Fullerton for Los Angeles after midnight. As it passed, Amtrak 2 was completely dead.
