In 1901, the Great Northern built a branch line from Kalispell, to Somers Montana. The primary purpose was for lumber and a tie plant that operated there. The tie plant burned and the BN ceased operations in 1985. The track for the tie plant and lumberyard were still in when I took this shot in May of 1990. The ice house in the back ground was still there as well. Today this is a rails to trails route and based on images from Google, the ice house still exists!
