In October 1990, an eastbound Santa Fe freight crosses the Tuolumne River in Hughson, California, just south of the small town of Empire. In fact, the bulk of this train is still in Empire. Even if this train is heavy, eight locomotives for the trip down the Central Valley is overkill and most likely represents the repositioning of power. All that power will, however, allow an easy crossing of the Tehachapi Mountains later in the day.
