Remarks & Notes

The Illinois Central built Stewart Tunnel on their line to Madison, WI in 1887. The WICT operated it at the end and the line was shut down in late 1993. Plans were underway to convert the line to a bike trail when this shot was taken in May of 2000, and today it is open to bike and foot traffic.
