As the tie replacement continues along the WofA mainline, numerous crossings will also be upgraded with new ties, a fresh top layer of asphalt and new rail of course. Which is exactly the scene taking place in Loachapoka on a Sunday in March. Today two hi-railers sandwich a C&O rail carrying flatcar and use their attached cranes to drop of rail at various crossings between Opelika and Chehaw. The process of using hi-railers is much more efficient and faster than how they did it in 2008, when a locomotive consist and crew were used.
