Remarks & Notes
Reflecting back on the events of 2011, the transfer from Roanoke to Clifton Forge of Chesapeake & Ohio 614 certainly stands out as a memorable trip. In preparations for what was originally intended to be "The Greenbrier Express", arrangements were made by Ross Rowland to move C&O 614 from Pennsylvania to Roanoke, Virginia to be displayed at the Virginia Museum of Transportation with N&W 1218 and N&W 611 temporarily before being move to Clifton Forge. With cooperation by Norfolk Southern, Buckingham Branch, and CSX, massive 4-8-4, C&O 614 was transferred from the Virginia Transportation Museum on the morning of May 7th, north to Waynesboro, to interchange with Buckingham Branch west to Clifton Forge. Photographed above, C&O 614 has successfully been transferred to the NS/BBRR interchange in Waynesboro and is less than an hour from departing along the BBRR North Mountain Subdivision west to Clifton Forge. Upon arrival at Clifton Forge on CSX Rails, C&O 614 was placed on display at the C&O Heritage Center, home of the Chesapeake & Ohio Railroad Historical Society. By the end of summer, C&O 614 was stripped of her C&O paint and replaced in "The Greenbrier Express" scheme as a promotion for what was planned to be an elite passenger train to operate being Washington D.C. and White Sulphur Springs, WV, home of The Greenbrier Resort.
