Remarks & Notes
Our train has stopped to throw a switch. Mr. Dan McFadden adds the following: "That is a CNJ switcher (RS-3) off in the distance. They had quite a business with local industry in High Bridge. The track straight ahead, the track veering to the left, and the CNJ main (out of sight) formed a wye. The track straight ahead would join up to the main for a west bound move, while the track to the left would join up to the main for an east bound move. The switch you see in the foreground would normally be lined up as you see it because the freight that traveled over the branch came out of Allentown. My guess is that the excursion came out of Jersey City, then entered the track you see to the left. They would have stopped to throw the switch in the foreground, moved the train past the switch, then stopped again to reset the switch for the straight ahead direction."
