The Bronx Point. On the land that was once the Erie Railroad Harlem/149 Street Station freight yard near on the Harlem River in the Bronx, New York, a new residential development has recently been completed called " The Bronx Point". A late running CSX M701(11) passes by the scene on the Oak Point Link with the four-pack of CSXT 478 (AC44CW, YN2), 464 (AC44CW, YN3), 1712 (SD40-3, YN3) and 465 (AC44CW, YN2) leading on the morning of Sunday, May 12, 2024. The Erie Railroad was one of several railroads (including Lehigh Valley, CNJ, New York, New Haven & Hartford and New York Central) that had freight operations of various scale in the South Bronx. In the Erie's case, from 1927 until closing in 1969, the yard was served by carfloat and not connected to any other railroad. A phrase said many times recently but as true as ever, the scene around "the link" in the Bronx is evolving from the past industrial structures to new residential development at a rapid pace.
