Remarks & Notes
Gone But Not Far. Recently, the former 1939-1940 World's Fair Railroad Exhibit lights were removed from the Norfolk Southern Altoona, Pennsylvania Yard. The 100 foot tall lights were brought to Altoona after the fair, and had been illuminating the yard for decades, but have has not been in use in many years. But when they were deemed structurally unsound, in stepped the Railroaders Memorial Museum, and the three existing fixtures (of what was believed to be four that were at the fair) were carefully removed and are to be assessed for restoration and display. The Pennsylvania Railroad and its Long Island Railroad were heavily involved not only in displays at the fair, but also transporting attendees, and the lights would make a nice addition to the museum.
