The Oakwood Yard in Detroit, MI,to Avondale Yard in Kansas City, MO, auto parts train rolls thru downtown Springfield on the NS Springfield District. The downtown is on the change as big funding is being spent for the Illinois High-Speed Rail Chicago to St. Louis program. The project will take the UP line on the Third St. corridor and relocating to its 10th St. corridor and construct underpasses at rail crossings throughout the city. Springfield has 68 at-grade rail crossings. When the project is complete, there will be 32 at-grade rail crossings, eight new underpasses, and 1 overpass. Crazy how much stuff they tore down for this.
