Remarks & Notes
That must be one hot car of woodchips! Well, as a matter of fact, it is. Knoxville & Cumberland Gap Railroad (KXCG) is one of RJ Corman's newest operations, assuming operations of two separate NS branches in east Tennessee to Jellico, TN and Middleboro, KY. Interchange is made with NS in Knoxville. In this photo, train CC001 has its train (of a grand total of one car) in the wind as it kicks up dust at the log yard crossing in Turley. Coal was once king on this branch, but now forest products keep it marginally hanging on. The woodchips are a test load from the Pactiv facility in Royal Blue, which exclusively provided chips for the soon to be closed paper mill in Canton, NC. This one load of chips for a prospective customer may determine the future of that woodchip yard.
