Remarks & Notes
The BNSF Nooksack River Bridge in Ferndale Washington is better known to metal heads around the world as the "Metallica Bridge". It began in the 80s supposedly when a high school student coming back from a Metallica concert in Seattle got up on the bridge painted the band's name. Over the years it has been painted over with other bands names and painted back to Metallica. This has gone on for over 30 years and is a bit of an internet phenomenon. Back to the railroad side of things here, the last time the bridge was opened was in 1942. It was welded shut during the war to prevent delays of trains sent to Canada with troops and supplies to cross the AlCan highway to Alaska.
