Remarks & Notes
A northbound empty grain train makes alot of noise as it passes by the beautiful depot at Mena. The Shreveport Sub is pretty slow thru this area, but thru Mena is one of the places where trains can kick it up to 40mph. The train is working north on the Shreveport Sub and is about 40 miles from the next crew change point at Heavener. This train came out of Queretaro, MX, and is symbolled back to KC. The Mena Depot was built in 1920 by the KCS and designed by T. C. Horstmann. The depot is one of the most elaborate surviving early-20th century depots in Arkansas. It is now owned by the city, and houses a local history museum and the local chamber of commerce. A restored 1939 Dodge police car sits out front.
