Remarks & Notes
Nickel Plate 2-8-4 No. 765 passes through Slateford Junction en route to the Delaware River Gap. Slateford Junction was the location on the Delaware, Lackawanna & WEstern (and later the Erie Lackawanna) where the Lackawanna Cutoff broke off and headed across the river to New Jersey. Hopefully the Cutoff will see both New Jersey Transit and Amtrak trains once again, perhaps in the next four years with the current rail enthusiastic administration. The tracks 765 is on went on into the town of Portland, PA.

The Van Swearingen Brothers standarized freight power for their railroads with nearly identical 2-8-4 Berkshires. Two of these engines are still in excursion service.
