Quiet on the photo line! With roughly 40 photographers waiting patiently, our Trans Magazine Photo Special holds the siding at Quivero (MP 17) for the passage of the Grand Canyon Railway's daily diesel-powered canyon excursion as it heads back to Williams just before sunset. With just a little time left before sunset, the plan HAD BEEN to do a couple of golden light run-bys at this location. Shortly before this meet occurred however, our leader informed us that the crew of the 29 were reporting their fuel situation was critical....meaning we would have to return to Williams immediately as they just barely had enough french fry juice to make it home. Well, as it turned out, their calculations were off just a tad. After we left this location and had been running for perhaps 10 minutes at track speed, the fire suddenly blew out and we coasted to a stop with barely 50 psi showing on the gauge......rut ro! :( Long story short, we had to be rescued and dragged back to Williams by one of the same F40PH locomotives you see here. Just when I thought I'd had every experience 21st century steam had to offer..... :)
