On a pleasant, August, afternoon, UP 1943 ( The Spirit of the Union Pacific) leads a 13 car officer special over the scenic Moffat Tunnel Line. Climbing over 8,000 feet in elevation, the Moffat Tunnel Line battles over the Colorado Rocky Mountain Range from Denver to Grand Junction. On this day, the Union Pacific Railroad shows off their line to customers and CEO Lance M. Fritz. With two SD70ACe as power, this train has no problem climbing the two percent grade, staying hot on the heels of Amtrak #5, as it follows the Colorado River at Tolland.
