Remarks & Notes
Two Pacific Surfliner F59PHi's live out their final days in Los Angeles on a warm, spring day at Redondo Junction. While the 462 is only briefly visiting the ex-Santa Fe locomotive maintenance facility for some work before returning to the Surfliner, 452 shows signs that it is preparing to depart Los Angeles for the final time to embark on its new life with Metra in Chicago. The removal of two small doors just above the unit's snow plow provide the necessary connections the locomotive to have "MU" (multiple unit) and "HEP" (head end power) pass through it to the rest of the train as it travels across the country on the Southwest Chief.

Some of the best passenger locomotives that EMD ever made (aside from the F40PH). With all Amtrak F59s gone from the Surfline, the only place that they can be seen is with Caltrans (Amtrak California).
