It's just after 3AM and coal loads heading to Norfolk, VA break the peaceful silence of this once-busy industrial area of Altavista, Virginia. Most of the infrastructure of this industrial park serves no purpose now, but that is not the case for the N&W CPL cantilever here, which still serves its purpose of guiding trains through Altavista, just as its done for over 50 years.
