Even with its fading paint, Great Northern EMD NW3 No. 181 makes a great display in the parking lot of the station at Whitefish, Montana, as seen on the morning of October 8, 2018. Only seven NW3s were built by EMD, all going to the GN. The units were built on lengthened frames and were equipped with Blomberg trucks, and had large cabs with a bulge just ahead of the cab containing a steam generator for passenger service.
