After four years of being pulled from revenue service for non-revenue duties, an F40 returns to the Coastline, this time acting as the protect for one of the Coastline shuttle sets. The PL42AC suffered a failure overnight, resulting in the F40 being added to the head end. The two that remain (4119 and 4120) are normally seen together as a pair for equipment and MoW moves, however the pair was split up this week, resulting in the 4119 taking a work train to Pearl Street Yard in Red Bank by itself, and the 4120 being sent to Bay Head to protect the shuttle set. Pictured is #4366 running eastbound to Long Branch at the Shark River Bridge right as the sun sets below the horizon.
Motive Power Industries and GMD of Canada have rebuilt the EMD F40PH. These rebuild F40s are slowly fading, but some can be seen in California and Canada.
