| This Utah Ry. coal train is part way into its climb up Price River Canyon to Soldier Summit. This location is just west of the crossovers at Lynn. Not seen are the 6 manned swing helpers about 2/3 of the way back in the train. The coal is destined for the huge IPP generating plant near Delta, Utah. Less than 4 years after I took this shot, the Utah Ry. ran its last coal train out of eastern Utah over Soldier Summit. The combination of declining coal production and competition from the Union Pacific caused the Utah Railway’s customers to finally drop to zero. The last run was January 16, 2017.
