Remarks & Notes
The Sun Sets on the Santa Fe. Redondo Junction, a home to the Santa Fe Railway's fleet of Southern California-based locomotive from steam into diesel days, can still be found to have a few traces of its first owner despite being utilized by Amtrak for the past 47 years. One of these small traces is in the form of ATSF 3463 - an original Santa Fe baggage car seen here reflecting the golden light of sunset on Halloween. Built by the American Car and Foundry Co. (ACF) in 1950, the 3463 served the Santa Fe until Amtrak took over in 1971. In a stroke of luck, if later fell into the hands of the San Bernardino Railroad Historical Society shortly before their cross country trip with Santa Fe 4-8-4 No. 3751 leading Santa Fe's employee recognition train to Chicago. The car would next travel with 3751 to RailFair 99' in Sacramento and smaller San Bernardino and the Port of Long Beach trips before becoming the society's sole tool car and earning a place at the Redondo Junction where it has continued to help keep 3751 running since.
