Nearly half an hour elapses during this exposure as the landmark AT&SF searchlights at Edelstein beam through the receding fog and the stars and a crescent moon set in the sky behind the Illinois prairie. A westbound takes a clear signal from the searchlights which stood for upwards of 60 years, but have since fallen to modern technology. The last of the Santa Fe signals on the Chillicothe have fallen, and with them, the character and charm of the former Santa Fe transcon has been eliminated.
A continuously growing album of photos that IMHO reveal the awesome and seldom-seen beauty of the railroad world from the dimming of day to dawn's early light! From dusk to dawn, trains roll on! (I'm still finding gems of sunset-to-sunrise surprises!)
