A southbound Chicago & North Western freight passes under a signal bridge approaching the crew change alongside the yard at Butler, Wisconsin, in August 1984. Behind lead EMD SD40-2 No. 6815 is one of a fleet of former BN SD45s that CNW acquired, along with a group of ex-Conrail SD45s, to give a boost to the locomotive roster when the railroad entered Powder River Basin. The locomotives on the left are stored—mostly rebuilt GP7s.
