The very first light of the day illuminates the spray from the mighty Victoria Falls, giving an impressive and colorful background for this passenger train pulled by NRZ's Garratt Class 15A 4-6-4+4-6-4 steam locomotive #414 "Ubhejane" ("Black Rhinoceros") crossing THE Victoria Falls Bridge. Sir Cecil Rhodes, Father of the "Cape to Cairo Railway", instructed the engineers to "build the bridge across the Zambezi where the trains, as they pass, will catch the spray of the Falls".
This picture was taken from The Victoria Falls Hotel's Terrace with a focal length 200 mm.
Landscape photography is difficult due to the challenge of combining good light and good scenery. Good railroad photography enters another level of complexity since it requires the first two while there is a train in view.
Taking a look at the same train and scene as captured by different photographers. The best way to view will be to sort by photo date so the photos are grouped together.
