| With heritage units on Amtrak trains rare enough in North Texas, the word of two special units on one train sparked some interest. With the usual F40 NPCU gone from the Heartland Flyer, Amtrak sent down another one to fill in for the time being, the chosen unit just so happened to be one of two specially painted one to honor veterans. Coincidentally on the same train was Amtrak's specially painted phase 3 P40 number 822 which was going south to make a quick appearance at a National Train Day event in Temple the following Saturday. Somehow the stars aligned and all worked out for me to be able to catch this once every few years catch. |
