As the head end of an eastbound Santa Fe intermodal train approaches Kansas City Union Station in the background, Amtrak’s “Kansas City Mule” uses the “high line” approach for KCT’s Kaw River Bridge to turn its consist before heading back to Union Station. The lower diamond the Santa Fe train is rattling over is known as “BN XING Interlocking.” This location is not too far east of the state line at Santa Fe Junction and is viewed on the afternoon of September 15, 1990, but is a bit different today as there is a new flyover bridge over the high line bridge used to expedite BNSF trains over this maze of trackage.
