Remarks & Notes

The Trans Natal early on a winter morning (overnight economy class passenger train from Johannesburg to Durban), headed by Class 6E1, E1659, one of only a handful of her class that made it into the "Purple" Shosholoza Meyl livery. The train is seen here crossing the Pentrich Viaduct in Pietermaritzburg. A real mismatch of liveries on offer here, from the motive power throughout the rest of the train’s consist, which includes a dining car in the green “Oscars” livery from the brief period when onboard catering facilities were outsourced.
