Remarks & Notes
We’re at Mounds, in eastern Utah, the junction point of the Sunnyside Industrial Lead with the mainline Green River Sub. Union Pacific SD60M #2373 has spent 3 or 4 hours on this branch at the East Carbon Development Corp.’s big hazardous waste landfill. Low level waste comes here via the Dirt Train Local from all over the west and midwest, including even the San Francisco Bay area. Loads are assembled at Wash siding west of here and then picked up by the Dirt Train’s power, which has run down lite engine from Helper yard, and then taken to ECDC. Loads are dropped there and exchanged for empties. Then the route is reversed and the train runs back to Wash where the empty gons, flats and containers are dropped for pick up by one of the manifest freights.
