Remarks & Notes
In our Bicentennial summer Amtrak still used the Minneapolis Great Northern station for its stop. It is visible in the background as the North Coast Hiawatha departs across the Mississippi River on the stone arch bridge named for James Hill, Great Northern's founder. The trailing SDP40F displays Amtrak's second color scheme for locomotives.

The EMD SD (special duty) series are a strong and reliable kind of locomotive which still serve America's rails today. They have proved themselves reliable by clocking in several million miles of freight service over several decades.
