In a somewhat rare move, Nevada Northern No. 40 skirts the well-known embankment on the beginning of the Keystone Branch as it approaches the yard at Ely to put the passenger train away. What makes this move rare is the positioning of the passenger cars, as normal operations would find the baggage car directly behind the locomotive followed by the passenger coach. In reality, No. 40 has taken the two cars all the way up to the wye at the end of the Keystone Branch to turn them for the following days double header train up the same branch. While most of the first weekend's edition of the 2018 winter photo charter choose to stay on the wrecking train on its return, a handful of us jumped ship at the embankment to shoot 40's return to Ely for the scene pictured here.
