Early in the morning on the first day of summer in 1973, SP 7907 West flashes part as it glides downhill through the 10-degree curve at Caliente. In the distance and up the burned-off slopes above the train, we can see Cliff siding, where the train just came from. From this vantage point, we can get a good appreciation for just how steep Tehachapi is.
