Remarks & Notes

The Chessie System livery was undoubtedly one of the most color rich, some would say gaudy paint schemes in modern American railroading. This photographer loved that the colors could shine in almost any weather. Here a newly painted C&O GP 39 and slug set light up a Clifton Forge yard scene on a drab February afternoon.
