Remarks & Notes |
After cutting off the last car at the hump NS 6193 is slowly making it's way up the receiving track number 2 heading for the east-end where the power will sit and the one man crew wait til the one of the receiving track get filled up, and ready for the hump. The belt pack device that you see on the conductor is the remote control for the RCO system that is transmitted from the RPU6 Slug which is MU to the SD40-2 for power. Of course we know with that system efficiency the locomotive is operated by a person not physically located at the controls within the confines of the locomotive cab. A safety feature to this odd way of operation is the fail-safe mode where if communication is lost the locomotive is brought to a stop automatically. Another efficient way to save crew cost, but unfortunately it seem that the railroad is progressing into the future, and swiftly moving away from the traditional way of Railroad Yard operation. |
