HXD1B type AC drive electric locomotive, the foundation by the Zhuzhou Electric Locomotive Ltd in the HXD1 eight axis high power AC drive freight electric locomotive with the German SIEMENS company jointly developed. The locomotive power 9600kW can meet the task of 5500-6000t freight traction transportation in plain area, with the highest speed of 120 km/h.
In June 2006, the Ministry of Railways formulated the technical scheme of 9600kW high-power AC transmission electric locomotive. After negotiations, in August 2007, the Zhuzhou Electric Locomotive Ltd and the German SIEMENS Group signed 1200 sets of six axis 9600kW AC drive freight electric locomotive contract, and named HXD1B. The design of the locomotive was completed by Zhuzhou factory, and the design of traction system and the production of main traction parts were carried out by the SIEMENS group. The contract includes technical transfer of the core components, and the vehicle assembly is carried out in Zhuzhou. The first locomotive was set down at Zhuzhou factory in January 2009.
