Remarks & Notes
We're stopped on the westward track about 4.5 miles west of Duplainville Tower. I've probably just gotten off the radio with the Duplainville Tower Operator regarding our dead locomotive. This was it's first trip out of the West Milwaukee Shops and Pewaukee is as far as the locomotive made it when it went belly up. Duplainville has called everyone regarding our plight stating the DS would run all westbound trains around us from Duplainville to Hartland and that the Milwaukee Diesel House was sending out a mechanic. It's funny thinking back but at this very same spot along Pewaukee Lake about 8 years earlier I was Firing for Harold Malkow on this very same job on a hot summer day when all of a sudden the train went into emergency. All the Trainmen were in the caboose and when we stopped all of them piled out and headed over to the lake to take a dip. Charlie Davis was the Con who pulled the air and Mike Mihalik and Dick Klingbeil were the Brakies. Harold whose nickname was the "MAD RUSSIAN" was not real pleased when I told him what was going on. About that time the eastbound Morning Hiawatha #6 went by us at 90mph with the business car Milwaukee carrying the markers and a number of"BIG SHOTS." Well I can tell you that the next day and for a few days after that the Traveling Engineer and Trainmaster were about shadowing our operation and I remember that we sure did a lot of rule abiding for some time to come.

The EMD SD (special duty) series are a strong and reliable kind of locomotive which still serve America's rails today. They have proved themselves by clocking in several million miles of freight service.
