Remarks & Notes
Steamscape: COLORado. D&RGW Locomotive #315 emerges from the "blazing" aspen forest at Coxo, Colorado, just prior to crossing Highway 17 for the 3rd time on the run to Cumbres Pass. Back in the early days of the D&RG, the railroad erected a number of snowsheds between this location and Windy Point, in a not-very-successful effort to keep the line open in the winter. Eventually, much of it was removed, including a covered turntable in the yard at Cumbres Pass.

Landscape photography is difficult due to the challenge of combining good light and good scenery. Good railroad photography enters another level of complexity since it requires the first two while there is a train in view.

The Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad and the Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad are all that remains of the legendary Denver & Rio Grande Western narrow gauge system. Here you'll find some of my favorites from these two beautiful railways.
