Even the most common sights in railroading, like an Amtrak F40 with a string of Amcoaches, eventually become history. This Northeast Corridor train was speeding south through Sharon, MA, near the summit of the modest ruling grade between Boston and New Haven on the ancestral Shore Line. In 2017 you can still ride the ageless Amfleet here, but the Amtrak power is all electric.
Once treated like a backwater with decrepit locomotives, cars and track, Massachusetts has become a star in the Amtrak constellation with electrification to Boston, service to Maine and an upgraded Connecticut Valley line.
