Remarks & Notes
The UP Gila Sub is the ex-Southern Pacific Sunset Route that runs 255 miles from Yuma, AZ, to Tuscon, AZ. UP is slowly getting ready thru PTC upgrades or double tracking projects to replace any remaining ex-SP searchlight signals along this route. Roughly only 85 miles of original SP trackage is left with old signals along the Gila. An eastbound from Los Angeles, CA, (Savage Pacific Services) to Wilmer, TX, (Dallas Intermodal Terminal) passes the odd ball cantilever in the middle of now where east of Dome. For some reason the SP put up these cantilevers signals at Dome and Wellton to protect mainly opposing main running to the end of double track and crossovers, even though the tracks are CTC both ways in the timetable???? Odd ball classics for sure.
