Oregon Coast Local. The former McCloud Railway Locomotive #25 passes a swampy pond adjacent to Smith Lake as she hauls a short local mixed train north on the old SP Tillamook Branch. These days, this trackage hosts the Oregon Coast Scenic Railroad, which runs tourist excursions out of Garibaldi, OR, going as far north as Salmonberry. The 30 mile line provides a wide variety of scenery ranging from coastal views of the Pacific Ocean, to small touristy towns such as Rockaway Beach, to the deep wooded wilderness along the Nehalem River in the Salmonberry Canyon. In addition to the little 2-6-2 Prairie type seen here, the railroad also maintains a 2-Truck Heisler Locomotive, which is the former Curtiss Lumber Company #2. The photo freight seen here was operated in October of 2014 as part of a Lerro Productions Charter.
