Sitting on the garden tracks at Amtrak’s Redondo Junction engine facility are three engines that show the variety of power used in southern California. On the left is EMD-built F59PHI 454, wearing the carrier’s Pacific Surfliner paint scheme. In the center is MPI MP21B 591, built in 2010. On the right is one of the GE P42DC diesels owned by Amtrak – these are the backbone of their diesel fleet all across the system and this one, number 2, was built in August 1996. Photographed on railroad property with permission and full PPE.
